Yew Chung International School of Beijing is proud to announce that two of our students were winners in this year’s LittleStar “Me & China” Short Story Competition (LittleStar SSIS 全国中外籍学生中文写作比赛“我*中国”).
2019 marked the third year of LittleStar magazine’s Chinese short story competitions. This year 600 entries were submitted from 31 international and bilingual schools. All stories were limited to 2,000 or fewer Chinese characters and had to be prepared on the theme of "Me & China". Despite the stiff competition, the talent of YCIS Beijing’s Daisy Lin (林李詩涵), aged 9, and Thomas Qin (秦基元), aged 8, shone brightly as both were awarded first prize in their age categories. Daisy’s winning story was entitled “I Love the Spring Festival” (我爱春节) and Thomas’ was “I want to Talk to You” (中国,我想对你说).
Yang Hua (杨华), Director of Chinese Language for the secondary school programme at YCIS Beijing’s sister school, YCIS Shanghai, served as a judge in the competition. He shared his thoughts and some advice for Chinese language learners at the ceremony.
“It’s a great honour to participate in this Chinese writing competition. I’m impressed by the works of many students. For Chinese learning and writing, I’d like to offer some tips: turn thinking into an instinct and cultivate your insight in life.”
非常荣幸地参加了此次中文写作比赛的评选,很多学生的作品让我印象深刻。对于中文学习和写作,我给大家的一些建议: 将思考变成一种本能,在生活中培养自己的洞察力。
Our winners were invited, along with their families, to take part in the awards ceremony on Saturday, 23 March in Shanghai.
We are very proud of our winners and look forward to celebrating more wins at the upcoming LittleStar CISB Short Story Competition “NOW” awards ceremony, which will be held at the Canadian International School of Beijing on 13 April.
We send our warmest congratulations to Daisy and Thomas. To read Daisy Lin and Thomas Qin’s winning stories click on their titles, listed below.
