Twelve star swimmers from Yew Chung International School of Beijing assembled at 7.30am on Saturday for the ISAC Under 10 Swim Meet. Nine Beijing international schools took part in the full day competition, and the swimming was of a very high standard.
YCIS Beijing swimmers were drawn from Years 3, 4 and 5 and took part in several heats ranging from the 25m Freestyle to the 200m Medley Relay. The day started off with a fantastic win for the Y4 boys, Cheuk (Jack) Kam, Ryan Peng, Muen (Bowen) Zhong and Sebastian Spells, in the 100m Medley Relay heat.
There were some brilliant individual achievements too. Summer Wu, in Year 4B, achieved a Personal Best in the 25m Freestyle and Ryan (aka “The Fish”) swam 100m Freestyle in an astonishing 1:36:34, earning him a bronze medal. Jack Kam went on to win two further heats in individual strokes, bringing YCIS Beijing’s total heat wins to 15.
Year 4A teacher, Ms Kate Woods, who accompanied the team, commented “the YCIS Beijing team had a huge amount of team spirit and absolutely swam their hearts out!”
Congratulations to each of our swimmers, Ryan Peng, Hok Sum Chan, Summer Wu, Ziyue Wu, Bowen Zhong, Yuening Liu, Sebastian Lee Spells, Jack Kam, Isabelle Zheng, Avery Kyle Hung, Han Gyeol Choi and Andrew Gong. And thank you to Firepower Swim Club at 1872 who train our swimmers to such a high standard.
