Recently, Yew Chung International School of Beijing Theatre Teacher, Freda Humber held an International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Workshop for her year 10 and 11 students. The YCIS Beijing IGCSE Theatre Workshop was led by visiting guest instructor Mr. Elly Wafula who came from Guangzhou to facilitate the event. The workshop was structured around several theatrical pieces and stimuli was provided to help the children prepare for their comprehensive written exam as well. In addition, this event proved an excellent opportunity for YCIS’s students to further hone and enrich their theatre arts knowledge and techniques in the in the areas of direction, performance and set design.
Mr. Wafula is a respected theatre instructor with experience teaching the performing arts in four countries including the UK. He has extensive experience preparing theatre students for their IGCSE’s and was happy to help our eager students gain an outside perspective on their craft and technique along with providing hands-on instruction and guidance.
Students must do well on their IGCSE exams to achieve an IGCSE, which is an important prerequisite to obtaining their International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. The IGCSE exams provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate proficiency in a subject area and prepare themselves for the rigors of the first year of freshmen level college work in that subject. We are grateful to Mr. Wafula for donating his time to help YCIS Beijing students prepare for this important exam and thank our Theatre Teacher, Freda Humber for taking the initiative to organize this worth-while workshop for our students.
