Our annual Literacy Weeks in our Primary school is a time for students to immerse themselves in the joy of language and writing of all kinds. This year, the theme for the English Literacy Weeks programme was ‘Storytelling Through Comics’. Students explored graphic novels and learned the literary skills and enhanced vocabulary that goes into creating these texts before trying their hand at making their own.
The experience for our students was enriched further with author visits from Liuba Vladimirova, artist and author of ‘Liuba Draws Beijing’ and Janice Stewart-Yates, educator and author of ‘Peking Pugs’. Our Chinese Department built further linguistic bridges through poetry recitations and quizzes on Chinese culture and literacy.
Our Literacy Week rounded up for our students with a colourful book character costume parade where our playground was filled with characters from books around the world.
