Teaching kindness and compassion to our students is one of the pillars of the YCIS educational ethos. Our students often live out these qualities through their charitable work and providing for those in need. For many years, the YCIS community has partnered with the Migrant Children’s Foundation (MCF). Many of our students are involved in their community projects by volunteering their time and expertise, for example in our MCF Reading Buddy Programme or the various fundraisers for MCF organised in our school community.
Recently, a group of YCIS Beijing Secondary students organised another charity collection to provide girls in the migrant community with daily necessities. The students worked together to collect donations from students, staff, and parents. The charity collection was highly successful, raising over $1,000 worth of donations in addition to in-kind contributions such as library books and toys. All the monetary donations were dedicated to providing the girls with essential products to support them in their daily lives.
A special thank you goes to the main organisers, Sara Fernandez and Anna Westerholt of Year 12, who presented the donations to MCF on March 1st, together with their teacher Abdul Oladipo. It is not the first time that the two students have supported their less advantaged peers at MCF, raising awareness among their fellow students of our social responsibility. This recent charity collection highlights the value our school community places on the power of collaboration and collective action in making a positive impact on the wider community. The work of our students serves as inspiration for all to use our privilege and talents to achieve a more compassionate and inclusive society.
