Last week, our school hosted the first CUGO Presentation Series of this academic year. We were delighted to have Ms Julie Chiu, a representative from the University of Southern California (USC), as our distinguished guest. Ms Chiu has a special connection to the city and YCIS Beijing as she previously served as an Admissions Officer at our school in 2010-2012 and also worked for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. As an International Admission Officer at USC, Ms Chiu's passion for working in a multicultural environment continues.
During her presentation, Ms Chiu provided detailed information on the admission process, academic programmes, campus life, and scholarship opportunities at USC. Known as one of the top universities in the United States, USC has a highly selective admission process. It attracts students from all around the world for its exceptional academics, global perspective and diversity. Ms Chiu emphasised that what sets USC apart is its Renaissance Ideal Program, which encourages students to pursue interdisciplinary combinations of their major and minor from widely different fields.
The presentation was of significant interest to both Secondary students and parents of both Primary and Secondary students. After a group Q&A session, our CUGO, Mr Abdul Oladipo and Ms Chiu were available for individual conversations with parents to discuss their child's interests and academic career prospects.
The impressive turnout at the presentation highlighted the enthusiasm that both students and parents have for exploring university destinations. It showcased that gathering first-hand information is a valuable resource in finding the perfect university fit. We are happy to offer support and assistance in this regard and would like to express our thanks to Ms Chiu and Mr Oladipo for hosting this event. We eagerly anticipate our upcoming sessions, during which we will introduce more universities.
