On January 27, the greater Yew Chung International School of Beijing community held a day of Chinese New Year celebrations featuring student performances, arts and crafts, and Chinese acrobatics.
Students from all years of Primary School showed off their Chinese language skills with a variety of songs and acts. There were also a host of more active performances as well, including kung-fu, fan dances, and shadow puppet shows. Professional acting and acrobatic troupes were present as well. They dazzled audiences with their incredible stunts and gained a number of laughs with humorous skits, which included appearances from the Monkey King. Local vendors and Secondary School students set up booths in the gym too, offering arts, crafts, and delicious local fare for all visitors.
Chinese Co-principal Christine Xu offered glowing praise of the event:
Congratulations on a great Chinese New Year Celebration Day! Students, parents, and teachers alike really enjoyed the ECE and Primary presentations and performances as well as the Temple Fair activities. It was a wonderful day for everyone to gain a greater understanding of Chinese culture. Through the quality of the children’s performances, we can really see the teamwork, dedication, and co-operation that our teachers possess. Well done!
The Secondary Student Council and IB Diploma Programme Year 12 students’ “Creativity, Action and Service” were on full display. Thank you to our Secondary School teachers and staff for your leadership and coordination.
And last but not least, thanks to all of you in the YCIS Beijing community for showing your Temple Fair spirit by wearing red!
From all of us at YCIS Beijing, have a happy Chinese New Year and a happy, fortune-filled Year of the Monkey! Be sure to also check out our full collection of photos from the day as well!
