The Yew Chung International School of Beijing’s ECE and Primary sections capped off the school year with a lively and fun-filled week of activities to promote community spirit and reflect on all they’ve accomplished in the past school year.
The theme of each day of the week came from the acronym TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More):
Monday brought all ECE and Primary students Together to play in the beautiful weather on “Beach Day.”
Tuesday encouraged Everyone in each year level to collectively create a class banner to display in the auditorium.
Wednesday showcased all of the fantastic extra-curricular Achievements that our students attain regularly.
Thursday was a day of reflection, prompting students to consider what More they hope to accomplish next school year.
Friday was a full-fledged House Spirit day, featuring loads of inter-house competition, sports, and games.
Year 3 Co-Teacher and lead organiser of this year’s Spirit Week Jim Sweeney commented on the week’s remarkable ability to both bring the community together while encouraging the valuable soft skills YCIS Beijing has been emphasising at all grade levels throughout the year:
"This week emphasises various kinds of collaboration, like working together, being able to listen to each other, and negotiating with one another. Spirit Week brings everyone together, raising community spirit and teaching kids that they’re all an essential part of YCIS Beijing.
"As a school, one of our primary missions is pushing towards creating global citizens. Before a child can become a global citizen, they have to be a community member. Our YCIS Beijing community represents many different personalities and many different nationalities; bringing all of them together and appreciating them are the first steps towards becoming a truly global citizen."
