YCIS Beijing’s soft skills collectively called “Dimensions of Learning”, underpin all learning experiences. These five Dimensions of Learning (collaboration, innovation, self-regulation, perseverance, and critical thinking) are explicitly taught and embedded within all learning opportunities. We believe that these Dimensions of Learning are a crucial component of a student’s holistic development at YCIS.
The most prominent of desired skills by future employers is critical thinking. Critical thinking remains an all-encompassing transferrable skill that can be taught and learned. We describe critical thinking as the analysis of problems or issues to understand, assess and identify possible solutions or make evaluations. Students at YCIS engage in discussions and activities that support them in identifying and practising the connected sub-skills that help them to be successful at thinking critically. Throughout the year, in our cross-curricular integrated units of study, students will continue to exercise these skills intentionally as they are just as important of a part of the learning as academics are. We are confident that our students are being set up for success in school, their communities, and their future by focusing on these all-important soft skills.
