YCIS Beijing Proudly Flexes Its Muscle
On December 2, a nippy Wednesday afternoon, Year 10 students had the opportunity to finally flex their muscle. There was no pushing or shoving. These students were the first to try out all the fancy equipment at our newly installed gym. Located in Honglingjin Park, just a minute by foot from the campus, the new facility is decked out with world class equipment and makes a vital addition to our sporting facilities that include swimming and basketball facilities in the 1872 community complex, the Honglingjin Park running track and, of course, our school’s playground A and gym.
Celebrations of Learning – Language Is No Bar to Having Fun
Throughout November, our Chinese language learners have been immersed in Putonghua. To display their prowess, secondary CAL (Chinese as an Additional Language) students participated in our “Learning Celebrations” event while their primary counterparts enjoyed a figurine-making workshop.
No Fast Way to Beat World Hunger
World hunger affects at least 690 million people according to a new report by the United Nations. To build awareness of this scourge, senior students at YCIS Beijing organised another participation driven “30 Hour Famine”. This annual activity serves both to express solidarity with millions around the world who regularly go without food as well as to help build character, an integral part of our secondary education programmes.
Rhymes in Keeping with the Times
Our ECE looked a little different last week with colourful and playful props popping up all over the Learning Communities space. From animals in a make-believe farm to daubing red paint on boxes to fashion replica buses, it was enough to get creative juices flowing. This was the set-up for World Nursery Rhyme Week (WNRW) that was celebrated November 16-20.
A Flood of Kind Notes Brings Smiles to Faces – But Who Sent These?
Our school’s mission was fittingly showcased on International Kindness Day, November 13, which brought cheer and joy in secondary corridors as members of the Student Council distributed anonymous letters expressing kind thoughts to fellow students.
Tips for Exam Prep Include Packing in Sleep, Snacks and Walks
Exam season is officially upon us at YCIS Beijing and students and teachers alike are preparing for Lower Secondary, IGCSE and IBDP assessments during the first two weeks of December. Although 2020 has been a challenging year for all, the exams are important progress markers for the first semester.
Looking at a Perfect World through a Broken Window
“Commitment to nurturing and educating the world’s future generations,” is the tagline for YCIS Beijing’s 25th anniversary. The celebration took off on October 9 with a series of activities that included a spectacular concert and wishes from our alumni who in many ways embody our theme.
A Day in the Life of an ECE Student
It’s been two months on campus for our Early Education learners and many have settled in well much to the satisfaction of their teachers. For K3, Ducklings co-teacher, Rachel Blylevens, this has been an exciting time to see the YCIS ECE values at work in ensuring a smooth transition for learners.
