Charitable Primary Students "Read to Feed" Chinese Farmers

During March, YCIS Beijing celebrated all things literature by holding a “Literacy Enrichment Week” for our students. One of the most impressive highlights of the week was our Primary School’s “Read to Feed” charity fundraiser. An event that encourages active reading while helping out a worthy cause, Primary School students greatly surpassed expectations by raising a whopping 23,912 RMB in a single week!

“Read to Feed”, organised by the global non-profit organisation Heifer International, is a fundraiser aimed at ending hunger and poverty in rural areas by raising money through a literacy-based initiative. Donations and funds received during March are going towards improving the living standards of impoverished farmers in remote Chinese villages by providing them with various kinds of livestock, such as pigs, cattle and sheep. At the same time, they are also provided training on better animal husbandry practices, preventing the spread of infectious disease, and how to more efficiently explore the market.

A huge congratulations to our Primary School students for their enthusiasm and for going above and beyond for such an important cause. As a reward for their hard work, Heifer International has invited students to come visit one of the farms they have helped improved as a direct result of the money they raised.
